What is so hard to recognize? Can you keep a steady stream and look for changes in the amplitude or frequency? Or send impulses and seek changes in the response? How is this important? (What size do I need to change what is sensible to activate?

Yes, motion sensors that use ultrasonic waves and radio.

Technically, this radar is a type of radio wave, if they are fairly accurate. Most cameras use automatic doors. There are several techniques for the detection and size.
